New Blog

I’m starting a blog on this website. I’ve decided to do this for a few different reasons.

First, there are a lot of places online where I’ve shared my thoughts, and I want to have a single place to collect anything significant. Plus, doing this on my own site gives me flexibility to organize and present things in the way I want.

Second, I want to preserve my writing. Content on social-media sites is often at risk of being removed, or the social-media site may shut down entirely. The prime example of this for me personally is Myspace. Myspace was one of my main social-media platforms during most of middle school, from 2007 to 2009 (after which most people in my social circles moved to Facebook). Since then, it was redesigned and then suffered a major data loss, leaving little left from when I used it. (As I was writing this, I wanted to find out exactly what remains, but the password reset isn’t working for me.) Now that Facebook seems to be on a decline, this pattern may end up repeating itself.

Moving forward, I plan to make this the primary place to post thoughts. I will still be active on social media though, but for any substantial material I’ll share a link to this site. I’ll also copy over older material from other sites, backdated to their original posting dates.
